Are you a morning person? When I was in college I used to sleep pretty late, I think that’s a common thing with everyone during college time. But it’s amazing how a lot of our habits change with time. After getting married and settling down in life, I started sleeping early, in fact now it’s a challenge for me to stay awake till midnight. I remember recently we had this Indian-Pakistan world cup cricket match and it went on till 3 am in the morning. I can’t remember the last time I was up this late and trust me it was hard for me to keep my eyes...Continue reading
I am trying to squeeze in one last minute dessert idea for St. Patrick’s Day. Actually I didn’t share any dessert recipe for this festival other than the mint chocolate chip ice cream and so I thought I should make something for you guys especially because desserts are the best part about this holiday or any holiday if you ask me! 😀
Have you guys tried mint oreos? The regular oreos are always present in my pantry because hubby is a huge fan. He likes to eat these cookies with milk and he eats...Continue reading
As a food blogger, it’s always fun to come up with new recipes. I love to play with flavors and experiment in my kitchen and I could do it all day but sometimes we all need that classic recipe which we want to make as it is because they are classics for a reason and you don’t want to change them, just like this mint chocolate chip ice cream. Mint and chocolate is a very popular combination and you see it all over in US twice a year, once obviously during Christmas and second in March around St. Patrick’s Day. And...Continue reading
With the clock moving forward by an hour yesterday, spring is almost here, even though I hate losing an hour. But seriously it has been so sunny here that I feel like it’s summers already with temperatures in mid 60s. I love summers [in US of course, they are not fun in India with 115 F degrees!] because other than the amazing weather and lots of sunshine, I love all the delicious fruits and veggies that we get during this time of the year. Yum!
Summers to me mean more...Continue reading
Chai – so many ways to make it and so many ways to relish it. Mornings in India are incomplete without chai, I think nobody does anything till they get their fix of chai. With so much chai around, it was obvious that I grew up loving the drink as well. However my parents always drank the simple chai made with milk, water, sugar and loose tea leaves but I could somehow never like it that way. So when I grew up, I always tried making my own chai, sometimes with ginger, sometimes with cardamom and...Continue reading
I guess I’m the not the only one obsessed with cinnamon. It’s one of the most popular spices especially when it comes to baking and there’s a reason for it. You add it to any baked good and the flavor just doubles, really! Plus the aroma when you are baking with cinnamon make you feel heavenly, case in point being these overnight cinnamon rolls. <3 So because I love cinnamon so much and had some extra tortillas lying in my kitchen, I thought of creating a snack using my favorite spice and so these Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chips were baked and devoured....Continue reading
Even before I say anything I just want to say that this post is dedicated to my dad! He loves imarti (or Emarti), it’s his most favorite sweet in the world. I don’t think anything makes him more happy that eating hot imartis for breakfast. He often goes to Haldiram (a popular chain of restaurant in Delhi] to just eat Imartis, yes that’s how much he loves them! As soon as I made these, I messaged him a picture on Whats app and since then he has been saying it’s so unfair that we live thousands of miles apart. But...Continue reading
This dish brings back so many memories. Aloo matar tehri is a kind of vegetable pilaf especially popular in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) in India. Even though I grew up in and around Delhi, my origins are from UP and so this was something mom would often make for dinner when she was not in the mood to make dal and roti. I was not the biggest tehri fan around but that has to do with the fact that I’m not a big fan of rice in general but even then I enjoyed this dish whenever mom made it. It’s funny how you start missing these...Continue reading
So I have been posting all the dips and sauces for the last few days because I wanted to share this – chickpea spinach corn quesadillas with cilantro mint chutney and creamy cucumber dip! I have spoken about my love for Mexican food several times on the blog. I love it because it’s awesome and also because Mexican food introduced me to avocados. I had no idea what avocados were when I moved to US few years back and now it’s one of my favorite things to eat. Seriously I make avocado sandwich for breakfast all the time....Continue reading
Creamy cucumber dip is an easy to put together dip and is great with chips, pretzels, pita bread and more!
This weekend was so bright and sunny in Seattle, even though the temperatures were in 50’s and it was in fact quite chilly at night. Okay you folks from the east coast and around, I know it’s nothing compared to what you guys have got, but still it’s too much for us here! Anyway I love the sun because everything feels better...Continue reading
Vegan Broccoli Carrot Paratha – Indian flatbread filled with a spicy broccoli and carrot filling!
After all the festivities and sugar overdose during the holidays, it’s now time to eat something healthy and what better than broccoli and carrot the get on track? They are 2 of the healthiest veggies out there and I love to eat them as such but they taste even better when you make a paratha out of them. Parathas are one of my favorite things to eat and I usually have them for breakfast...Continue reading
Pumpkin Streusel Muffins – most pumpkin muffins topped with delicious oats streusel. Perfect for fall!
There are pumpkins everywhere. Literally. Yesterday I went to Trader Joe’s and all I could see was pumpkin and pumpkin products. There was pumpkin butter, pumpkin bars, pumpkin chai, pumpkin cereal, pumpkin ravioli, pumpkin granola, pumpkin oatmeal and 10,000 other stuff which I can’t seem to remember! Didn’t I say there are...Continue reading
