The weather has been really weird here, I mean I thought it was spring and it was supposed to be warm. But all of a sudden for the last 2 days, it has been really cold, like there’s a chill in the wind like it’s in December or January. Crazy right? I hope things change pretty soon! When the weather is cold, I crave for comfort food and I am sure I am not the only one who feels like this. For me like many other Indians comfort food is rice, dal (lentil) and some potatoes on the side and so I made these ridiculously simple...Continue reading
I jinxed it, I mean I jinxed the weather. For the last few weeks I have been happily posting about how sunny and wonderful it has been in Seattle but the weather changed as soon as spring officially started! Crazy right? It has been raining non stop, it’s grey, dark and so annoying. And this kind of weather obviously calls for a comforting soup like this Mediterranean Lentil Soup with Kale.
I got introduced to Mediterranean cuisine only after I moved to US. It quickly became one of...Continue reading
If you are from North India, then you can probably make parathas even in your sleep. No seriously I am not exaggerating! When I was in school my mom would send parathas in my lunch box every single day. It would get to a point where I would request mom to send something else. She would then send sandwiches or noodles for a day or two and then it was back to parathas! I think the reason why parathas are so popular in India for breakfast or for lunch box is because 1) they are healthy flatbreads made with whole wheat flour 2) they are very filling...Continue reading
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when I say Peanut Butter? I always think of chocolate first because peanut butter and chocolate are like meant for each other. I can never get tired of this combination.
I remember I was so excited to see what my mystery ingredient when I got my package. And as soon as I opened it, I saw a huge bottle of Sriracha Sauce! Yup that’s what my mystery ingredient was. I am well aware of the popularity this hot sauce has gained recently but...Continue reading
Happy Friday guys! It’s the happiest day of the week and what makes it even more exciting? Some chocolate of course! I am not picky when it comes to chocolate, I can each chocolate in each and every form. Dark, milk, white I love it all. I love it as it is and even it’s inside cookies, cakes or even granola. I guess you guys get my obsession with chocolate. Anyway, so what kind of granola do you guys like? Are you one of those who tries hard to find the big clusters from the granola box? If yes, then this recipe is for you – big cluster chocolate...Continue reading
This dish brings back so many memories. Aloo matar tehri is a kind of vegetable pilaf especially popular in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) in India. Even though I grew up in and around Delhi, my origins are from UP and so this was something mom would often make for dinner when she was not in the mood to make dal and roti. I was not the biggest tehri fan around but that has to do with the fact that I’m not a big fan of rice in general but even then I enjoyed this dish whenever mom made it. It’s funny how you start missing these...Continue reading
Hello guys, how did you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Did something special? I made a homemade gift for my hubby and I will be sharing that very soon on my blog! And he gifted me lots of kitchen/baking stuff , it’s so easy to make me happy! 😀 I think we might need to buy a new home just to keep my baking stuff, it’s getting difficult to accommodate all this in the 1 bedroom apartment we currently live in!
Anyway so now that Valentine’s Day is done with I’m back to sharing my Indian...Continue reading
This question is for all the vegetarians out there, what do you guys order when you eat out at an Asian restaurant? My choices are mostly restricted to green beans and tofu, sometimes there’s some eggplant dish and that’s mostly about it. Yeah maybe some noodles, rice and salads too. I always look at the big menu which is there for everyone and then they will bring a super small vegetarian menu : ( Anyway I don’t really mind the limited options because I love all the veggies especially when cooked in Asian...Continue reading
Sometime back I read that on an average a person gains around 5 pounds of weight during the holiday season. I don’t know how accurate this is, but I can feel all my jeans and dresses getting tighter. Urghh 🙁 Seriously how easy it is to pile on rounds, if only it was that easy to lose them. I ate way too many desserts, like way too many! It’s time to pull up my socks and hit the gym. YES! How was your weekend? Fun? Relaxing? I just slept and slept some more. This rainy grey weather makes me want to curl up in my bed all the time. I can’t wait for...Continue reading
Vegan Broccoli Carrot Paratha – Indian flatbread filled with a spicy broccoli and carrot filling!
After all the festivities and sugar overdose during the holidays, it’s now time to eat something healthy and what better than broccoli and carrot the get on track? They are 2 of the healthiest veggies out there and I love to eat them as such but they taste even better when you make a paratha out of them. Parathas are one of my favorite things to eat and I usually have them for breakfast...Continue reading
Do you like Zucchini? I guess it’s one of those veggies which you either love or hate, there’s no middle way here. Me being a complete veggie person love it but then I love every damn veggie in this world so my husband says my opinion doesn’t count! Anyway he’s a picky eater so it takes little efforts to make him eat a vegetable like zucchini. If I just stir fry it and give it to him, he will not eat it. However if I make these patties, then that’s a different...Continue reading
I don’t what to call this dish, should I call it a salad or should I call it a pulao [pulav/pilaf]. Anyway whatever you call it, this vegan red quinoa recipe is super simple and super quick. I made this when I super hungry so I tried to make this as simple and quick as possible.
Do you like quinoa? I didn’t know what is was until 3 years ago. Then after moving to...Continue reading
