Apples!! Fall is more or less synonyms with apples. You can’t possibly ignore them at this time of the year. I have been munching on them nonstop. There are so many varieties to choose from. Honestly speaking, I am still not familiar with all the different types of apples. The simple reason is because we never had this much to choose from back home and so for me it was like a totally new thing. When I went to buy apples some 5 years ago in the United States, I couldn’t believe what I saw! So many apples and so many names, how would I ever know which one is perfect. Then I read few articles and realized that there isn’t really a perfect apple, they are all good depending on what you need them for. For some recipes, tart apples (like Granny Smith) are better and for some, you need the sweeter variety (like Gala).

Anyway so much for apples, the bottom line is that they are so in season & you must use them to make these Apple Salted Caramel Scones. These apple scones were really good on their own but the salted caramel just made them so much better, like it always does!

I used my base scone recipe here, which I have used in my blueberry scones and pumpkin scones before and just tweaked it a little to make these Apple Salted Caramel Scones. My initial idea was to make simple apple scones but then I had some heavy whipping cream left in my refrigerator and so I made my favorite salted caramel sauce and then topped these apple scones with these – it was so good! I am little addicted to everything salted caramel so these scones are right up there in my favorite list.

Making scones is pretty straight forward. The most important thing that you have to remember is to use cold butter. I usually cut my cold butter into small cubes and then place it inside the freezer for few minutes before using in the recipe. That way the butter stays really cold, which results in flaky scones. Butter, flaky scones with a hot cup of coffee – there can’t be a better start to your day! Enjoy!

Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or two forks till the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add in the liquid mix to the flour mix and also add the chopped apples.

Mix everything together. Dump it onto a floured surface (the dough will be sticky) and work with your hands to bring it together in form of a 8 inch circle.

Using a sharp knife cut the circle into 8 triangles. Brush each triangle with heavy cream and sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.

* Scones freeze well. Place a piece of parchment paper between each scones and put them inside a ziplock bag and freeze. When you want to eat them, simply take them out of the freezer and re-heat in the oven at 350 F degrees till they are warm.

* I did not peel the apple before adding it to the scones, you may do so!

    1. We’ve been munching on apples nonstop around here, too. For me, the perfect apple is crunchy and sweet…that’s why we love Honeycrisps so much! And I love me a good scone, too…so the combo is definitely right up my alley. These look amazing, Manali! 🙂

    2. These are beyond incredible, Manali. The topping totally caught my eye on social media and then I had to come see these up close and personal. Now I want the whole batch!

    3. I’ve been getting tired of the usual pancakes or waffles on the weekends – this recipe might be a perfect replacement with a hot cup of coffee 🙂 I might even persuade my family to go apple picking with me so we can have these when we come back home! Thanks for sharing, Manali!

    4. Hi Manali,

This looks delish and I actually want to make it this weekend. But I don’t see where it says how much chopped apples to add in the ingredients list. Can you let me know how much?

      Thanks
      Lea
