Quick & easy, these Cheesy Garlic Bread Sticks are easy to whip and perfect for football entertaining! With no rising time required, these come together very quickly.
I guess the stars in my horoscope are all aligned in the wrong way these days. I keep hurting myself everyday. I really don’t know what’s going on. Last week I fell down from stairs and badly bruised my left arm. It was all black and blue! While that was still healing, I cut my left thumb with a very sharp knife. And while still at it, I fell again from a stool yesterday and twisted my right foot. Now I can’t walk properly and on bed rest. See, I told you there’s something wrong with my stars these days!
I hate getting injured (I mean who loves it?!) and especially when I have so much to do. But all these injuries are keeping me away from the kitchen. And I am also sad about missing my morning run, I just started getting regular with it and then this happened. Anyway I hope no more injuries and I can get back on my feet very soon.
So amidst all this, if there’s one thing which makes me happy, it has to be food. Especially food like these cheesy garlic bread sticks!
Garlic bread reminds me of my school days. When I was in school, pizza was a very new thing in India. “Pizza Hut” had opened recently in the city for the very first time and we used to be so crazy about the garlic bread and pizza there! If you ask me now, I would say that pizza was average at best but since that was our first encounter with pizza, we obviously loved it. Their garlic bread used to be so good (I am sure it sill is, but I haven’t been to pizza hut in ages!) In fact I always loved the garlic bread more than the pizza. Also Domino’s garlic bread sticks used be very popular then!
The football season is in full swing and while the game is exciting, my focus is always on the food. I mean there’s no fun watching football without some good food. Agree? And cheesy finger food is the best kind of food that you can serve to hungry people. These garlic bread sticks are so easy to make, you don’t even need the dough to rise and all. Also if you want to cut short the process, here’s a tip – use store bought pizza dough. I am sure it will work the same way! Enjoy!
Method
In a bowl, whisk together flour, salt, minced garlic and dried oregano. Set aside.
In a measuring cup, take warm water and add honey to it. Add active dry yeast and give a quick stir.
Let the yeast activate for 5-10 minutes. This is called proofing of the yeast. You will know your yeast is proofed/active when it’s all bubbly and frothy on top. If you don’t see any bubbling up, your yeast is dead. Throw the water and start again.
To the flour mix, now add olive oil and mix.
Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and knead using the hook attachment of your stand mixer or your hands for 7-8 minutes.
Knead till the dough looks smooth. Place the dough in a well oiled bowl and set aside for 15 minutes in a warm place.
Divide the dough into 2 equal parts.
Flatten each dough into a square shape and transfer it to a baking sheet.
Brush melted butter on top of each flattened dough square.
Cover half of the dough with grated mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle some garlic salt on top.
Take the other half of the dough and fold it to cover the cheese. Sprinkle grated parmesan cheese on top.
Using your pizza cutter, cut thin strips of the dough.
Bake at 400 F degrees for 14-16 minutes or till lightly golden brown in color. Enjoy these cheesy garlic bread sticks immediately with some tomato ketchup on the side!
* You can increase the amount of cheese depending on how much cheese you like.
* Use store bought pizza dough to cut short the process.

If you don’t have mozzarella can you substitute it for marble cheese?

Hi Manali, been a silent follower of your blog and simply love the step by step recipes – I made spinach raita for the first time from your blog and it was yum. Now it is a regular on my weekday meal menu.
Too tempted to try these breadsticks, but just a question. If I use APF instead of bread flour, does it still need only 15 minutes to rise? Or should I give it more time? Please let me know..Thanks! Mansi
Hi Mansi, thanks for following my blog 🙂 I am so glad you liked the spinach raita, it’s one of my favorites too! Regarding the breadsticks, yes you can follow the same steps with APF..only the final texture of the bread can be a bit different but I don’t think it will be much! Hope you give it a try and let me know how it turned out!
