Tiktok is probably the most addictive social media platform. I resist the temptation to open tiktok everyday because I know that once I login, I would not even realize and 2 hours would have flown by.

There’s always a new dance trend, a new food trend and it just sucks you in. I keep seeing all kinds of food trends and some definitely catch my attention. After the baked feta pasta, these pasta chips caught my eye. Everyone seems to be making them on tiktok and so I had to try them too.

And I of course had to add Indian spices to them to make them spicy. I am sure you guys are not surprised! These Masala Pasta Chips are flavored with spices and cooked to crispy perfection in the air fryer!

These Pasta Chips

  • are so easy to make in the air fryer.
  • made with simple ingredients.
  • make the perfect snack for parties, game day etc.
  • can be customized to taste.

The basic recipe which is popular on tiktok uses just garlic powder, salt and pepper. Some recipes also use chili flakes, oregano and parmesan cheese. I ended up using my everyday Indian spices to flavor these pasta chips.

Ingredients

This recipe uses simple ingredients!

Pasta: you can use any shape of pasta that you have in your pantry. I have used rigatoni since that’s what I had in my pantry and their big size also makes them perfect for dunking in dips and sauces. You may also use bow-tie, fusilli pasta shapes.

Spices: I have spiced these chips with coriander, garam masala, turmeric, Kashmiri red chili powder and some dried fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi). You can adjust the amount of spices to taste and preference. The chili powder that I have used here is Kashmiri red chili powder so it’s not really hot.

Olive oil: these chips don’t need a lot of oil. For the 8 oz pasta used in the recipe, I used 1 tablespoon oil.

Optional add ins: you can add some cheese to make it more flavorful. Parmesan or pepper-jack will be really nice here. Just grate and toss with the pasta before air frying.

Step by Step Instructions

1- Bring a pot of water to boil. Once water starts boiling, add the pasta and boil according to instructions on the package. I boiled 12 to 13 minutes for rigatoni pasta.

2- Once the pasta is cooked al-dente, remove pot from heat and drain the pasta using a strainer.

3- Then transfer it to a large bowl.

4- Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil.

5- Then add the spices- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder, 1/2 teaspoon kashmiri red chili powder, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric, 1/4 teaspoon garam masala and 1 teaspoon crushed kasuri methi. Also add 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper.

6- Using a spatula, mix until everything is well combined.

7- Transfer to an air fryer in a single layer. I had to air fry in 2 batches.

8- Air fry at 400 F degrees for 10 minutes until they are crispy and browned. Remember to shake twice in between so that there’s even cooking.

Serving Suggestions

These Masala Pasta Chips can be served with a chutney or hot sauce or simply ketchup.

I served these with a cilantro-sour cream dip/chutney made with cilantro, sour cream, jalapeno, garlic, ginger, some mint leaves, cumin powder, almonds, salt & pepper. It’s perfectly thick and creamy and goes well with these chips.

Tips & Notes

  • If you pre-heat your air fryer for 3 to 4 minutes, these get done even quickly. I pre-heated my air fryer at 400 for 4 minutes and these got done in 7 to 8 minutes.
  • These can burn quickly, so keep an eye and shake 2-3 times while the chips are in the air fryer. I did burn a batch while trying these pasta chips.
  • The cooking time in air fryer will change depending on the shape of pasta you are using. Smaller varieties will cook in less amount of time.
  • Cook your pasta al-dente. It should be firm, because it will cook some more in the air fryer as well.
  • The seasonings can be changed to taste and preference. If you don’t want Indian spices, replace them with oregano, garlic powder.
  • Addition of cheese will be great here. Pepper jack n parmesan will go well.

It should work with gluten-free pasta. Follow the timings on the package to boil the pasta and then air fry for 10 minutes.

Can these pasta chips be made in the oven?

Try baking at 400 F degrees for 20 minutes. I haven’t tried it personally but I think it should be okay but not as crisp as it comes out in the air fryer.

How long will these chips stay fresh for?

They should be okay for few days in an airtight container at room temperature but best enjoyed fresh!
