Cold coffee is one of my favorite summer drinks. It’s easy to make and tastes great every time. When I used to live in India, I would make cold coffee and mango milkshake during summers all the time. They would be my evening treats as I didn’t like drinking hot chai in 115 F degrees weather. Even though everyone else in my house did have chai even in that weather -typical Indian thing to do, isn’t it?

Another drink which I also enjoy and make often during summer months is this Iced Mocha. Coffee and chocolate are 2 of my favorite things and it is hard to go wrong with this combination.

Ingredients for Iced Mocha

Instant coffee: you can use any Instant coffee that you have. I like to use Bru instant coffee or Nescafe.

Chocolate syrup & cocoa powder: for the chocolate flavor in this Iced Mocha, I like using both cocoa powder (unsweetened) and chocolate syrup. You can find chocolate syrup at most grocery stores near the ice cream aisle.

Milk: you can use any milk of choice, it can be dairy or non-dairy. For this recipe, I have used whole milk. You can also use 2% of fat-free milk. If you use fat free milk, the iced mocha will not be as rich and creamy as the one made with whole milk.

Sugar: to sweeten the iced mocha, I have used sugar. The chocolate syrup also has sugar, so keep that in mind while adding sugar to this recipe. You can use any sweetener of choice.

Step by Step Instructions

1- Warm 1/4 cup milk in a pan on the stove-top (or microwave it), you don’t need to boil it but warm it. Then transfer it to a bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of instant coffee to it. Since the milk is warm, the coffee dissolves quickly and easily.

2- Now, add sugar to taste, around 1 to 2 tablespoons.

3- Add 2 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder and stir until everything is combined using a wire whisk.

4- Now, add 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup.

5- Using a wire whisk, mix until everything is well combined. Set this aside.

6- To a blender, add 2 cups of cold milk (of choice). Add the prepared coffee and chocolate mixture to it. Add a few ice cubes if you want.

7- Blend until it’s all well combined and frothy.

8- Pour your iced mocha into glasses. Top with whipped cream if desired. You can also drizzle some chocolate syrup on top before serving.

Vegan Iced Mocha

To make this Iced Mocha vegan, make the following changes.

  • replace whole milk with non-dairy milk of choice. My recommendation would be Oat milk.
  • make sure to use vegan chocolate syrup.

Tips & Notes

  • Consider adding a scoop of vanilla or coffee ice cream to take this a notch up. It will make the perfect summer treat.
  • You can make the coffee and chocolate mixture in advance and chill in the fridge. This way you will have it ready to use whenever you want to have iced mocha.
  • You can easily double this recipe and make 4 servings.
  • Make sure the milk that you use is cold and straight out of the refrigerator.
